The Shriners Care Cruiser Program

Throughout its 100 year history, the Shriners of British Columbia & Yukon have steadily increased their presence in communities throughout British Columbia & Yukon with many varied activities. At the time of writing Shriners have 48 Shrine Clubs and 37 Units actively engaged in the philanthropic works of the Shrine, which has always been at the forefront when it came to helping children.

The Shriners “Care Cruisers” provide transportation for children with burns, orthopedic and spinal cord injuries to/from Shriners Hospitals in Portland and Spokane as well as child patients to and from Sunny Hill and BC Children’s Hospital. All transportation for these children and their families at no cost to the patient or family. These buses are specially equipped with a wheel chair lift, lounger area, refreshment galley and sleeping areas.

To maintain its Hospital Patient Travel Fund, which exceeds $1,500,000.00 annually, Shriners use Bingo and Casino fund raisers as its principle sources of funding. Each year Gizeh holds Charity Classic Golf Tournaments to help maintain this very worthy cause.
